From the editor: In this distinctive book, Bernard and Patricia Ferris McGinn gather together the wisdom of Christianity's greatest masters. Each section offers insight into the mystic's teachings and how we can apply that wisdom in our own lives today. The McGinns begin with the various practices mystics use for finding God. These include sacred texts, the contemplative life, and prayer. Then they guide us through transformation in God, including endless pursuit, unknowing knowing, and the Trinity, and they conclude with two prayers to guide us on our way.

The McGinns are uniquely qualified to introduce us to the rich tradition of the mystics. Bernard McGinn, widely regarded as "the world's greatest interpreter of Western mysticism" is the author of the first three volumes of the Presence of God series, including the Foundations of Mysticism, Growth of Mysticism, and Flowering of Mysticism. He is the Naomi Shenstone Donnelley Professor at the University of Chicago Divinity School. Patricia Ferris McGinn, M.A., is a licensed professional counselor and former Executive Director of the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association. She teaches in the art therapy program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is active in political advocacy for counselors on the state and national level.
